Republicans are Pigs, Except for my Dad
Urban Discourse, Paycheck to Paycheck
A Collection of Essays, Notes and Ideas

The (following) essays, ideas and notes chronicle the tenure of George Bush, Dick Cheney and their neo-fascist plan to scorch the earth and save it for American corporations. If nothing else, the Obama victory, in juxtaposition to the conservative political alternative, demonstrated how trite, ridiculous and hateful Republicans are in relation to the rest of the evolving, civilized world.  Republicans’ frightening sway on American culture (and neo-liberals’ acquiescence) caused me to write these pieces.  As optimistic as so many are, I cannot yet imagine what will be written about this country in the next four to eight years. We must do more than just hope for the best.

The Myth of Rock & Roll
The Racial Politics of American Popular Music (1945-2005)

“Thoughtfully, yet provocatively, Bell examines the interplay between politics, economics and culture. In the process, he lays bare the bad journalism, outright lies and historic distortions that have obfuscated our understanding of contemporary African American music. This is not just an important issue for those of us who, as Curtis Mayfield might put it,‘are darker than blue,’ but it should also be a subject of great concern for all those with hungry ears and an appreciation for a taste of justice. Bell has called this one out, and told it like it is.”
